Why I Make Lace

I love the process of lacemaking. Despite being a slow and time-consuming activity, I enjoy the quiet moments of concentration and focus. In addition, I appreciate the simplicity of materials: bobbins, threads, pins, and a pillow.

Making lace is like solving a puzzle – every stitch has a purpose and adds a small bit to the whole picture. There’s a lot of room for experiment and improvisation.

For me, lacemaking is a lifelong learning process. I have started with traditional techniques trying both braid and continuous bobbin laces. I can work equally good on a bolster pillow, holding hanging bobbins in the air, as well as on a flat pillow, moving bobbins on the top of the surface.

However, I never limited myself to one style or stick to tradition. I continue to investigate different possibilities in lace, and I am drawn to the creativity involved in the lace community. New ideas, techniques and materials are constantly emerge and evolve.

As I continued to explore and learn, it inspired me to create my own lace designs. Through my works, I hope to share a vision of beauty, simplicity, and human connection – about the world around me and my place in it. Ultimately, I believe that lace has a part in my life and in our ever-changing world.
