Bobbin lace, cotton and linen threads hand dyed with cochineal

Created for the OIDFA 2023 competition theme ‘Red Thread’. Cochineal insect historically served as a natural dye material that can produce vibrant shades of reds, purples and pinks.

In this project, a combination of cotton and linen threads were hand dyed with cochineal. Lace design was inspired by the photos of insects. Technique of braid bobbin lace with variety of braids was used to fill the shape.
